“Great Taste” show to feature Spooney Wearever
October 31, 2007, Deerfield Beach, FL – The producers of Great Taste
are pleased to announce that Spooney Wearever will be featured in an upcoming
episode as part of the show’s series, Fashion Forward in our Active
Lifestyle.
Today’s busy lifestyle dictates that we be ready to go anywhere
and do anything at a moment’s notice: Drop the kids off, head for
the office, run to the bank, the dry cleaner, the grocery store, get your
workout on at the gym…oh, yeah – you’re doing all this
while still managing to looking stylish. Get real! What fairy godmother
is going to make all that happen?
This is the conundrum solved by Janice Fetter, an avid dragon boater who
recently earned Silver and Bronze medals at the World Championship Downunder
Dragon Boat Races in Sydney. By the time she starts her work day, she
has already finished her morning canoeing and weightlifting and sweated
through her spinning class. Janice was on a bike tour and was introduced
to a variety of fabrics that boasted durability and high performance.
This inspired her to design a line of clothing that would be versatile
enough to take a woman through her work day, comfortable enough to polish
off the day-to-day errands, and most importantly, would be easy to maintain.
This was the birth of Spooney Wearever, a line of clothing that looks
stylish yet has the soft feel of an old favorite T-shirt.
To find the perfect fabric for her clothing line, Janice traveled the
country with an old soft T-shirt, comparing that feel to the feel of the
different fabrics she looked at. She chose Dri-Release®, a patented
air-spun soft fabric designed to wick moisture away from the body quickly,
leaving the wearer feeling comfortable. When washed, this high-performance
fabric dries four times faster than cotton, yet still maintains its shape.
Combined with odor-neutralizing FreshGuard®, the Dri-Release®
fabric used in Spooney Wearever clothing “spoons” the body,
putting the wearer, as Janice puts it, “in a pajama state of mind”.
Even better is the fact that Spooneys can be rolled up and shoved into
a travel bag and still look great when you reach your destination. Spooneys
come in a variety of mix-and-match wardrobe-expanding styles and colors
that allow Spooney Girls to easily create their own personal look.
Spooney Wearever
You'll have a hard time keeping up with Janice Fetter. She's up at 5 a.m. and on the water by 6 in her canoe. Then she's off to lift weights before heading to a Spinning class. And then her day in the office begins.
It's from this background of constant activity that Fetter decided to start her own company: Spooney Wearever. Made from high-performance fabric designed for sports, the line was created to fit her lifestyle without sacrificing style.
So she designed clothes that "felt like pajamas" but were stylish enough to take you on errands around town. She went around the country with an old T-shirt in one hand and tested fabric with the other hand, trying to match the softness of the comfy worn shirt until she found the Dri-Release fabric she uses now.
Although she started out part time, her line has grown from being carried in six stores to 75 stores up and down the East Coast, always keeping her on her toes.

Wilmington, DE– Not just for high energy sports any more, Dri-release
with FreshGuard has inspired woman athlete to develop casual-wear that takes
advantage of its comfort and performance features around the clock.
“Once you experience Dri-release, you want your whole wardrobe made of it”, says Janice Fetter, founder of Spooney® Wearever, an emerging new casual/loungewear line based in Charleston, SC.
Exceptionally effective at maintaining comfort during high-energy activities, Dri-release with FreshGuard has become well known in the active sports and outdoor industries since its introduction in 2000. It can be found in dozens of major brands of apparel, underwear and accessories both in stores and online.
Dri-release is a patented, intimate blend of synthetic and natural fibers that accelerates the water release rate of wet fabric. Rather than just spreading moisture across its surface, Dri-release actually pushes it to the outside of a garment, releasing water and perspiration. Tests show it dries four times faster than cotton and faster than any other performance fabric on the market.
FreshGuard, an odor neutralizer, is permanently embedded in all Dri-release fabrics. It works by blocking odor-causing sebaceous body oils from attaching to the fabric, in turn, stopping the attraction of odor-causing bacteria. Not an anti-microbial which can attack bacteria that possess positive functions, FreshGuard is friendly to the environment.
In addition to its performance qualities, Dri-release with FreshGuard is distinguished from other quick-dry competitors by its natural fiber content, look and feel. While the fabric possesses the feel and appearance of 100% cotton, it has an even softer drape and “comes out of the washer and dryer each time like new”, explains Fetter.
Fetter set out to create multiple-use apparel that could let a woman feel fresh and comfortable around the clock.
Fetter, who admits she would prefer staying in her pajamas all day, created the Spooney Wearever line to give active women the freedom to effortlessly and comfortably go about their day in style, from attending a yoga class, running errands and working around the house to just resting. Several Spooney tops have double fabric on their front panels so one feels “a little more dressed”, says Fetter. The Spooney Dri-release knit also contains a touch of Lycra® for added stretch and comfort.
Karen Deniz, president of Optimer’s European division and head of marketing, says Optimer has long anticipated the adoption of Dri-release with FreshGuard in every day products. “Like other effective technologies from the athletic shoe to spandex - once we see and feel the benefits of performance fibers, fabrics and designs, it’s a natural to want to incorporate them into other aspects of our lives”. Deniz says another new market to embrace Dri-release technology is next-to-body daywear such as bras and briefs. She also forecasts Dri-release with FreshGuard will become available in dress shirts and uniforms in the not too distant future. “Comfort is now a priority for all the clothes we wear”.
Spooney targets active women already familiar with performance products and incorporates activewear detailing, and silhouettes.
Spooney will offer long and cropped pants, shorts, camisoles, and short
sleeve, long sleeve and sleeveless T’s in a rich color palette of
chocolate brown, pistachio, tomato red, sunrise orange, periwinkle, pink,
black and white that are meant to be mix and matched. Some of the shirts
will also have tone-on-tone graphics. Fetter also points out that all Spooney
styles are tag-less to eliminate any irritation that might detract from
“a pajama state of mind”.
